CORNER COMMONS

May 8 - Sep 30

Corner Commons is a temporary, public gathering space created within the Jane-Finch Mall in Toronto. It was designed and built as a collaborative effort by the Jane/Finch Centre, Perkins&Will, and local volunteers. The space transformed a portion of the mall's parking lot into a vibrant hub for community activities, events, and connections.

Purpose: Corner Commons aims to provide a welcoming and accessible space for community members to gather, socialize, and participate in various activities, according to the Jane/Finch Centre.

Design: The space is designed to be visually appealing and inviting, with bright colors, comfortable seating, and designated areas for different activities.

Programming: Corner Commons hosts a variety of programs, including community arts festivals, vendor markets, workshops, and events organized by local artists, resident leaders, and community groups.

Impact: The creation of Corner Commons has had a positive impact on the Jane-Finch community, providing a dedicated space for residents to connect, participate in cultural activities, and enjoy public spaces.

Recognition: Corner Commons was awarded a 2022 RAIC National Urban Design Award of Excellence for its innovative approach to community engagement and design.
